### 1. Analyze the Task Before Writing
Before you type a single word, note the key words in the prompt. Make sure you clearly understand the topic and the specific points of view you are being asked to present. A well-planned essay is much easier to write than one that is made up on the spot.

### 2. Strictly Follow the Length Requirements
The length requirement is incredibly strict. You will receive full credit for form if your essay is between 200 and 300 words.
* *Warning:* Writing less than 200 words or more than 300 words will decrease your score.
* *Fatal Error:* If your essay contains **less than 120 words or more than 380 words**, you will receive a flat **zero** for the entire task across all seven scoring factors.

## How Write Essay is Scored

Your response is judged on your ability to write a persuasive or argumentative essay. Your score is based on seven detailed factors:

### 1. Content
**Does your response address the topic?**
You must address all aspects of the topic using appropriate details, examples, and explanations. If your essay goes off-topic, you will score a **zero** across all seven factors.

### 2. Development, Structure, and Coherence (DSC)
**Does your response demonstrate good development of ideas and logical structure?**
The best responses use a logical pattern, connect ideas smoothly, and contain multiple paragraphs (a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion).

### 3. Form
**Does your response meet the length requirement?**
As mentioned above, you must write between 200 and 300 words for full credit.

### 4. General Linguistic Range (GLR)
**Does your response use language that precisely conveys your ideas?**
You are rewarded for accurately communicating complex ideas. Using complex sentence structures and varied vocabulary correctly will score higher than consistently using simple, basic sentences.

### 5. Grammar Usage and Mechanics
**Does your response demonstrate correct grammatical usage?**
Your sentence structure, punctuation, and capitalization are evaluated. High proportions of grammatically correct complex sentences will achieve the best scores.

### 6. Vocabulary Range
**Does your response demonstrate command of a broad vocabulary range?**
The AI looks for a variety of words, academic terms, synonyms, and idiomatic expressions. Avoid repeating the same words over and over.

### 7. Spelling
**Does your response demonstrate consistent spelling?**
PTE Academic recognizes spelling conventions from the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. However, you must pick **one** convention and use it consistently throughout your essay.

### Important Scoring Notes:
* **Partial Credit:** This question type uses partial credit scoring. No credit is given for an irrelevant or unoriginal response.
* **Skills Evaluated:** This task affects your writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and written discourse scores. Listening and speaking are not tested.
* **AI and Human Evaluation:** All traits are AI-scored. However, a human expert will also review Content, DSC, and GLR before your final score is confirmed.
