What is the Write from Dictation Task?
In this task, a short audio clip begins to play automatically, and you hear a sentence lasting 3 to 5 seconds. You are only allowed to listen to the audio recording once. Your goal is to type the exact sentence into the response box at the bottom of the screen.

Expert Tips to Ace Write from Dictation
1. Type as Many Words as You Can
Write down or type as many correct words as you can remember in the correct order. You score points for every correct word you write. Even if you miss a few words, getting the majority right will preserve your score.
2. Use Grammar to Fill in Gaps
If you remember a word but are not completely sure where it fits into the sentence, use your knowledge of English grammar to help you decide. For example, recognize whether a missing word should be a subject, verb, or modifier based on sentence structure.
3. Double-Check Your Spelling
Spelling is critical in this task because points are awarded based on exact word matches. Always leave a few seconds at the end to review plurals, verb tenses, and common spelling mistakes.
How is this Question Scored?
Your response is evaluated based on your ability to understand, remember, and accurately reproduce a spoken sentence using correct spelling.
- Content: Your score is calculated by counting the number of correct words included in your response in the correct sequence.
- Maximum points: Awarded if all words are present and spelled correctly.
- Partial credit: If one or more words are incorrect or missing, partial credit scoring applies.
